Specific regulations for the master's dissertation due to the corona measures

For students whose master's thesis mainly contains a literature study and who cannot consult (part of) the source material:

  • Students finish their master's thesis on the basis of the material available.
  • Students write a preamble to their master's thesis explaining how the corona measures had an impact on their master's thesis and how the student has coped with this.
  • When assessing the completeness of the source material the supervisors are asked to take the inaccessibility of the libraries into account.
  • A postponement of the submission date is possible (see below).

For students whose research requires fieldwork (observations, interviews, surveys, etc.), lab work or any other activity that could no longer be carried out due to the corona crisis and where this work had already been carried out to a (large) extent:

  • Students finish their master's thesis on the basis of the material available. In the master's thesis, the student also describes the entire process and the further steps that should have been taken.
  • Students write a preamble to their master's thesis explaining how the corona measures had an impact on the master's thesis and how the student has coped with this.
  • For the assessment, the supervisors are asked to take the circumstances into account.
  • A postponement of the submission date is possible (see further).

For students whose research requires fieldwork (observations, interviews, surveys, etc.), lab work or any other activity that could no longer be carried out due to the corona crisis and where this still had to start or where it only happened to a very limited extent:

  • Together with the student, the supervisor examines how to (partially) redirect the master's thesis so that its completion will be possible (e.g. a literature study, a systematic review, analyses on the basis of existing datasets ...).
  • Students write a preamble to their master's thesis explaining how the corona measures had an impact on their master's thesis and how the student has coped with this.
  • A postponement of the submission date is possible (see further).

Postponement of the submission date:

Students who, due to the corona measures, did experience difficulty for their master's thesis may be granted an individual postponement up to 15 June 2020 at the latest for the submission of their master's thesis in the first session. The public defence can take place until 4 July 2020 with graduation in the first session.

Only in exceptional circumstances can this individual postponement be granted. The faculties shall determine the manner in which an individual postponement shall be granted and shall ensure equal treatment of students.
