Dr. Petra Debusscher

Petra DebusscherPetra Debusscher is postdoctoral researcher at the Ghent Institute for International and European Studies Science and lecturer in the Master EU Studies and the Master Global Studies. She holds a PhD in EU studies on the topic of Gender Mainstreaming in EU Development Policy which she obtained in 2010 at Ghent University. She has been affiliated as BOF postdoctoral fellow, FWO postdoctoral fellow and as guest professor to Ghent University and the University of Antwerp. In addition, she has held visiting research and teaching positions at the University of Copenhagen’s Centre for European Politics and the Radboud University’s Political Science Department. She is editorial board member of the Journal of Diversity and Gender Studies (DiGeSt).

Her research interests include gender and diversity in EU policies, EU development and external policy, intersectionality and multiple inequalities, EU innovation, technology, research & higher education policy.

In addition to her academic work, Petra has several years of experience working as an independent gender expert for EU institutions, including the European Commission (REA, DG DEVCO, EASME…), the European Parliament’s FEMM Committee, the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) and the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT) among others.
