Funds 4Brain

Prof. dr. Paul Boon

Epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, cerebrovascular disorders, dementia and cognitive impairment are all examples of brain disease. These are becoming increasingly common and, moreover, we don’t always have sufficient medicine to treat them. This is why the research group led by Prof. Paul Boon is doing groundbreaking research into new types of treatment for these conditions. The project focuses on so-called neuromodulatory treatments that work by stimulating nerves in the brain.

Prof. dr. Kristl Vonck
“We can help make people better, even though we can’t cure them, by using a kind of pacemaker that we surgically insert into the neck. The electric shocks in our brain are far more complicated than the imitation shocks that we can create with the pacemaker. There are still many questions that we will try to answer through our research as much as we can.”
- Prof. Kristl Vonck, researcher and *involved in the fund

How your gift can make a difference:

Professor Kristl Vonck explains on how we can use neurostimulation to treat epilepsy, depression, and maybe even corona.
